Seminar IST Inria: Big Data, new sheets of information

Topic: Big Data is everywhere in the media. Described as a source of innovation, wealth creation, job creation, democratic issue when it is "open", Big Data fascinates and frightens. But what is it exactly? Do these massive datasets only belong to computer scientists, statisticians, politicians and entrepreneurs? Do professionals in the information-documentation have a role to play in this new landscape: identification, qualification, archiving, classification?

To meet the needs of the general public and doctors in charge of patients with genetic diseases, the Biomedicine Agency has developed an educational website: www.genetique-medicale.fr whose goal is to "give the keys of medical genetics for all". It is designed to be complementary to those skilled as Orphanet or as patient associations websites.

The European Research Council Executive Agency and the European Research Council are organizing on 18 and 19 September 2014 in Brussels, a workshop entitled Research Data Management and Sharing.

The Commission "open data in health" presented its report on July 9, 2014 to Marisol Touraine, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, which traces the work and discussions of the Commission on the issues and proposals relating to access to health data.
