Database objective
Main objective General objective: to analyse age-related economic and social problems and to enable cross-country comparison. Secondary objectives: - to analyse the relationships between health, ageing, and healthcare usage; - to analyse the role of social, economic and institutional contexts on the health of those aged 50+; - to analyse the issues surrounding senior citizen activity (employment, social capital etc.)
Inclusion criteria All individuals living in ordinary households aged 50 and over (eligible according to age), plus their spouses (eligible "as spouse"), independent of their age. All those eligible according to age will be interviewed in Wave 1. Only one eligible person is drawn in Wave 2. As such a maximum of two people per household are interviewed.

Detail of the geography area Wave 1: 7 regions throughout metropolitan France Wave 2-3: 8 regions regions throughout metropolitan France Wave 4 and after: the entire metropolitan territory At present 19 European countries and Israel have participated in at least one of the first five waves of SHARE: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. France has participated in all waves of the survey.
