Database objective | |
Main objective | To know, in an exhaustive way, road traffic accidents with at least a lightly injured person, to realize studies allowing to define and evaluate road safety policies. Especially to measure the frequency of accidents from situation to situation and, whenever possible, to take into account the exposition to risk. Measure the involvement of the road, the vehicle, the user, the behaviors, the speed, the alcohol... Realize chronological series. Develop research orientation from this file (for example: medical/road accidents research, matching with CNAM data) |
Inclusion criteria | All road traffic accidents occurred in France. The file exists in conditions to be exploited since 1978. It contains, in 2012, about 4 millions of accidents |

Procedures | |
Data collection method | Every road traffic injury accident must be the object of a BAAC (analysis bulletin of road traffic injury accidents), filled by the police or a competent gendarmerie officer (almost 3500 collect points). The feeds are different for BAAC coming from gendarmerie or national police. The information is centralized at ONISR, where it's checked and verified. For alcohol: when the agents arrive on the scene of an accident, they must control blood alcohol content of all the drivers and pedestrians implied (screening and blood alcohol content by blood sample for dead or seriously injured users, breathalyzer for uninjured or lightly injured ones). This information is recorded inside BAAC. |
