Additional information regarding sample selection. The case-control group (with no investigated diseases) were randomly selected from electoral registers in the Gironde prefecture, taking into account case age and gender. To ensure patients meeting inclusion criteria were located, a network of hospital and private practitioners (neuro-pathologists, neurosurgeons, oncologists and neurologists) was formed.
Database objective
Main objective To investigate the relationship between exposure to pesticides and central nervous system disorders (brain and spinal cord)
Inclusion criteria Adults aged 16 years or more living in Gironde who have malignant or benign primitive brain tumours that were diagnosed between 1st May 1999 and 30th April 2001. Recurrence, secondary tumours, pituitary adenomas, asymptomatic tumours, incidentally discovered and vascular malformations were excluded from the study.
