Burden of herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia among people ≥ 50 years old in France

Research question: To assess the burden of HZ and PHN among people ≥ 50 years old in France, in terms of healthcare resources used, medical direct and indirect costs, as well as pain severity and impact on quality of life.
Primary objective
• To evaluate HZ-related and PHN-related direct medical costs and indirect costs during a 9-month period (overall, by gender and age-classes).
Secondary objectives
• To describe HZ and PHN pain severity during a 9-month period (overall, by gender and age-classes),
• To evaluate impact of HZ and PHN on the quality of life of patients during a 9-month period (overall, by gender and age-classes).

Continuous recording of epidemiological indicators describing myocardial infarction: rate of incidence, rate of occurrence (incident cases and recurrent cases), rate of mortality, fatality rate. All of these figures are provided by sex, by year and are standardized on age.
- Use of the recorded data for developing research programs in analytical epidemiology on the environmental and genetic determinants of ischemic heart diseases.
- Design and development of specific targeted studies on issues of interest to cardiologists (acute coronary syndrome, caring for the acute phase of the disease, study of survival, etc.), Institut de Veille Sanitaire (French Institute for Public Health Surveillance) (validation of the death certificates for deaths of a coronary origin, validation of data from PMSI for myocardial infarction), regional stakeholders (population surveys on the risk factors).
- Transmission of specific information and calculations as requested by the DDASS, DRASS, and any partner that may be interested by the data on ischemic heart diseases in France.
