Additional information regarding sample selection. Providers were divided between private individuals and employees in approved organisations or authorised personal services (OASP). They were selected from 30 departments throughout metropolitan France.
Database objective
Main objective To identify the socio-demographic profile and to explore career paths and training for provider To identify their role and responsibilities and the precise nature of their activities, in particular their employer situation (level of independence, isolation) and the context in which they provide care (service provider, employed by private individuals with or without company representation) To collect feedback from providers concerning their occupation, their working conditions and the difficulties they may encounter while working To provide elements that will help to define the actions undertaken in order to encourage home care for dependent elderly people and disabled people, to structure services that offer home care assistance, to promote the professional development of providers and the attractiveness of this activity sector.

Data collection method Providers were first interviewed by telephone in order to determine if they belonged to the field of study i.e. of they did indeed look after vulnerable persons. They were then interviewed face-to-face.
