Additional information regarding sample selection. All patients that fulfil the inclusion criteria and admitted to one of the centres participating in the study from 12 March 2009.
Database objective
Main objective To assess the characteristics of patients admitted for acute or decompensated heart failure, their treatment course and practices regarding their treatment until discharge, and to measure the impact of these data on prognosis at 3 months.

To obtain epidemiological data, evaluate practices in terms of diagnostic and therapeutic treatment and to provide answers to clinicians' questions.
Inclusion criteria - Male or female;
- Over 18 years old;
- In hospital on the day of enrolment, i.e., hospitalised on the same day or days before;
- Principal diagnosis or associated acute heart failure;
- Informed consent.

Exclusion criteria:
- Heart surgery;
- Scheduled hospitalisation;
- Diagnosis of acute heart failure reversed in favour of an alternative diagnosis before discharge from hospital;
- Patients that refused to participate.
