Additional information regarding sample selection. This survey was conducted in 83 sites, including 15 international locations. A sample of 900 people was established for each site. The quota method used was based on the population structure of the INSEE survey area (in France), according to gender, age, level of education and socioprofessional category of individuals. Researchers should adhere as much as possible to the instructions such as: not to carry out more than one interview per street, to change the district or block when going out to take surveys, to vary interview times (day, evening, weekend).
Database objective
Main objective - To describe the representations attached to three archetypes: "mental illness", "insanity" and "depression" as well as related treatment and care. - To assess the prevalence of major psychiatric disorders in the general population over the age of 18. - To include field workers in the research-action procedure; - To create awareness about mental health issues among healthcare professionals and social workers, nursing students and elected representatives; - To promote the development of community psychiatry, following WHO global mental health guidelines.
