Additional information regarding sample selection. Volunteer schools were randomly assigned to one of the two intervention strategies: – EPIPOI 1 Group (screening/management): Screening overweight children or children at risk of being overweight and managed by his/her treating physician. – EPIPOI 2 Group (screening/management + intervention): Same protocol as the EPIPOI 1 Group with additional activities for children and families in collaboration with teaching staff. A third group, the Control Group, was formed at the end of the study. The children's weight and height were measured by the study physician during a compulsory medical visit at 5-6 years old and by physicians from the PMI (Protection Maternelle-Infantile [Maternal and Child Welfare]) services at 3-4 years old.
Database objective
Main objective The general aims of the EPIPOI study are:
– To screen overweight children or children at the risk of being overweight at 3-4 years old and who are then followed up by their treating physicians with or without support from RéPOP (paediatric obesity prevention and management networks) in Midi-Pyrénées (RéPOP Toulouse);
– to carry out educational intervention programmes for children and to assess their effectiveness;
– to train private practitioners in screening and managing overweight and obese children;
– to determine the prevalence of excess weight and associated factors in children 3-4 years old.
