Additional information regarding sample selection. Subjects randomly chosen from the electoral lists of the selected municipalities. The subjects have then been contacted to participate to the study.
Database objective
Main objective Study the relation between minerals in drinking water and especially aluminium, and the development of Alzheimers disease in 75 or more years old subjects. Verify if high concentrations of aluminium (more than 50mg/l of water) can improve the risk of dementia.
Inclusion criteria 75 or more years old subjects, exposed to high concentrations of aluminium in drinking water (Al>50mcg/l), residents in 14 towns of Dordogne, different than the ones included in the PAQUID cohort. 75 or more years old subjects participating to the PAQUID cohort, residents in one of the non-exposed towns (Al<50mcg/l) in Dordogne. Exclusion criteria: subjects recently arrived in town. Inclusion period: May 1999 - January 2001.
