Ces points d’évaluation concernaient l’évolution de la sinusite et la prise en charge associée (antibiothérapie, drainage, autre prise en charge). Patients were followed for 2 months with an evaluation point at 10 days and 2 months after diagnosis. La base de sondage était constituée par le fichier des médecins généralistes et des médecins ORL libéraux fourni par Wanadoo. Les médecins généralistes et ORL devaient inclure de façon prospective des patients présentant un épisode de sinusite aiguë diagnostiqué selon les critères du médecin, pendant une période de 4 semaines. Pour éviter de réaliser l’étude sur une période avec des particularités écologiques marquées comme par exemple une période d’épidémie grippale ou de virus respiratoire syncitial pouvant interférer avec le diagnostic et/ou le traitement de la sinusite aiguë, l’étude a été réalisée sur deux périodes de 4 semaines : mars/avril et septembre/octobre. Chaque médecin devait inclure les premiers patients répondant aux critères d’inclusion de l’étude (5 durant la première vague d’inclusion et 6 durant la seconde). A database of general practitioners and non-hospital ENT specialists provided by Wanadoo was used for selection of physicians. General practitioners and ENT specialists were to include prospectively over a period of 4 weeks patients with an episode of acute sinusitis diagnosed according to criteria of the physician. Each physician was to include the first patients meeting the study inclusion criteria (5 during the first wave of inclusion and 6 in the second). Les médecins participants devaient également recenser dans un registre tous les patients présentant un épisode de sinusite aiguë (avec un maximum de 20 patients).
